Columbia Bottle Depots are very proud to announce that we have been nominated for the Champion for the Environment Civic Award and we are one of the top three finalists! This is very exciting news! The winner of the award will be announced at the afternoon Council meeting on Monday, April 19, 2021.
Columbia Bottle Depots managed to stay safely open all through COVID even after many other businesses, including other recycling depots, closed down. This helped the company to be a Champion for the Environment for Kelowna residents by providing full-time work to approximately 50 employees (instead of going on CERB), providing residents with a location for increased recycling needs due to many people being at home, provide extra funds to some of Kelowna’s most vulnerable population, and helped to prevent abandoned material from piling up due to many other businesses closing.
Other initiatives in 2020 includes providing the processing and sorting services to the Automated “Express and Go” Station at Big White, helping RE/MAX raise over $17,000 for the Central Okanagan Food Bank, and donating over $40,000 to Pathways Abilities Society.
